18K GOLD-WRAPPED · CLEAR MOISSANITE BEZEL · PANDA DIAL
Black Counters On Ivory, Framed In White Fire
The most legible layout a chronograph can have, inside a ring of clear baguettes.
A chronograph keeps its measurements in small counters, and small counters have to be read in a glance. The quickest way to make them readable is to make them dark on a pale dial. That is the whole idea behind the panda layout.
Here the dial is smooth ivory, with no texture to distract the eye. The counters at nine, three and six are solid black, ringed in polished gold, with white numerals on them. Black ticks on the ivory, white ticks on the black — no mark sits on a colour that hides it.
Then the frame. A ring of clear baguette-cut moissanite goes the whole way round, and clear stones carry on down the lugs. Because the stones bring no colour of their own, they do not argue with the dial. They throw white light and small flashes of colour round it, and the black and ivory in the middle look sharper for it.

THE STONES
Clear Moissanite, Which Throws More Colour Than It Has
Baguettes on the bezel, round stones down the lugs, eight hearts and eight arrows in the cut.
Clear moissanite is hard and colourless, with one trick: it splits white light into colour more strongly than almost any other gemstone. In daylight or under a lamp, a clear stone throws flashes of red, blue and green that it does not contain.
On the bezel it is cut as long step-cut baguettes, set side by side in a single ring between two polished gold rims, with nothing engraved round it. On the case it is cut round: rows of small stones over the top of each lug, a line of larger stones down each lug's outer edge, the case ends at twelve and six set in three stepped blocks, and small stones on the guards either side of the crown.
The cut is eight hearts and eight arrows — facets placed so that, seen through a viewer, the stone shows eight hearts from below and eight arrows from above. It is a standard of symmetry, and symmetry is what makes a stone flash evenly instead of in patches.
From Rough Crystal To A Ring Of White
The dial is quick to describe. The stones round it are where the hours go.
Colourless Crystal
Moissanite starts as a grown crystal. Only colourless material is used on this watch, because any tint would warm the white frame and soften the dial's contrast.
The Round Stones Cut
Stones for the lugs and crown guards are cut round, facet by facet, to the eight-hearts-and-eight-arrows pattern. An uneven cut shows up as a dull patch in the flash.
The Baguettes Cut
The bezel stones are cut long and rectangular with stepped facets, then matched in length and height so the ring runs round without a gap or a step between neighbours.
The Setting
The baguettes go in side by side between two polished gold rims. Then the lugs are paved: small stones over the tops, larger ones down the outer edges, three stepped blocks at each end of the case.
The Dial Goes In
Last comes the ivory dial with its three black counters, gold batons with luminous fill and gold hands tipped in black — the only colours inside a frame of white.

Why The Contrast Holds
A clear baguette bezel and a paved case take a long time to cut and set, and a working chronograph has to run underneath all of it. This one arrives complete — gold-wrapped, stone-set and self-winding — for $999.
THE IVORY AND GOLD SPEC
18K gold-wrapped case, clear moissanite baguette bezel, paved lugs and case ends, ivory dial with three black counters, black alligator strap on a gold folding clasp. Checked by hand before it ships, boxed, and covered for two years.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are the stones real?
Are the stones real?
They are real moissanite — every stone on the watch, bezel and case alike. Moissanite is a gemstone in its own right, hard and colourless, with more fire than most. We do not pass it off as anything else.
Is the case gold all the way through?
Is the case gold all the way through?
No, and we would rather say so here. The case is 18K gold-wrapped: a layer of 18K gold over the case, which gives it the full, deep yellow in the photographs and a lustre that lasts.
Are the hour markers set with stones too?
Are the hour markers set with stones too?
No. On this watch the markers are applied gold batons with white luminous fill. The stones are on the bezel, the lugs, the case ends and the crown guards, and the dial is kept to ivory, black and gold.
Is there a date?
Is there a date?
No. The dial has no date window or any other opening — just the three counters, the markers and the print, which is part of why it reads so cleanly.
What is the strap made of?
What is the strap made of?
Black genuine alligator leather with large square scales, black stitching and a cream leather lining. It closes on a gold folding clasp.
Does the chronograph actually work?
Does the chronograph actually work?
Yes. The pushers either side of the crown start, stop and reset it, and the thin gold centre hand sweeps round the dial while it runs.
Does it need a battery?
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — it winds from the motion of your wrist. Left off for a couple of days it stops, and a minute back on the wrist restarts it.
How long does delivery take?
