A Black Dial Lit With Orange Stones
Salmon-orange baguettes at the hours of a deep black dial, framed by a ring of clear baguette-cut stones.
The hour markers on this dial are not printed or applied metal: they are stones. Long salmon-orange baguettes sit at one, two, four, five, seven, eight, ten and eleven, each held at both ends by small polished steel claws. At three and nine the stones are small squares of a deeper red-orange, and at six a small orange square sits at the very bottom of the dial.
Against the smooth black, the orange reads warm and bright, and a fine white chronograph track round the edge frames it.
Around the dial runs the bezel: a single ring of 36 clear baguette-cut stones, set side by side between polished steel rims, nine to each quarter. Nothing is printed on it; the stones are the whole of it.

THE DIAL
Black Counters, Gold-Tone Hands
Three black counters printed in white, gold-tone hands with luminous strips, and a thin gold-tone chronograph hand.
The three counters at three, six and nine are the same black as the dial, each ringed with white strokes and white numerals, so they sit quietly into it rather than breaking it up.
The hour and minute hands are gold-tone batons with luminous strips and black tips. Each counter has a slim gold-tone hand on a round hub, and the long central chronograph hand is thin and gold-tone too.
The case is polished 316L stainless steel, 43 mm across, with a fluted screw-down crown between two fluted pushers, and the dial sits under hard-wearing coated mineral glass.

Why The Black Works
Black is the colour that lets stones show. Here the dial and the strap are both black, the case is plain polished steel, and the only colour comes from the orange stones at the hours and the clear ones round the bezel. It asks $499.
