White ceramic chronograph with turquoise counters on a dark walnut desk beside a fountain pen

40MM WHITE CERAMIC · ENGRAVED TACHYMETER · CHRONOGRAPH

White Hides Nothing

Which is why a watch has to be finished properly before it is allowed to be white.

Every dark watch you have owned was doing you a favour. Black fills a soft edge, blurs a seam and hides the mark where a tool left the metal. Put white on the same case and all of it comes back, because white throws light straight back at you instead of absorbing it.

So the order of work changes. The case, the lugs and the bezel are cut and finished to the standard they would need if they were staying bare, and only then does the ceramic coating go on — sprayed in thin passes and baked between each one, because white needs more coats than any other colour before it stops looking thin.

The same treatment carries to the lugs, the end links and the folding clasp, which is the part most white watches skip. Hold it at arm's length and there is no join in the colour anywhere.

THREE TURQUOISE COUNTERS

The Only Colour Sits Inside The Dial

Three turquoise rings on gloss white, and nothing else coloured anywhere on the watch.

The easy way to add colour to a chronograph is to put it on the bezel, where it runs right around the edge and can be seen from the next table. This one refuses that. The bezel is white on white, and the colour is kept inside the dial where you have to look to find it.

Three turquoise rings: twelve hours at nine, thirty minutes at three, running seconds at six. Each ring is turned with fine concentric lines, so the turquoise shifts between pale and deep as the light moves across it, and each one is left white in the middle so the black counter hands stay readable.

Against gloss white lacquer, turquoise is about as much colour as a dial can take before it starts shouting. That is the whole point of stopping there.

How A White Watch Gets Its Colour

White is the finish that punishes every shortcut taken before it.

STAGE 01

Cut And Grooved

Case, bezel and lugs are machined first, including the fine horizontal grooves down the case flanks. Every line has to be cut now, because nothing can be corrected once the colour is on.

STAGE 02

Blasted To A Key

Each surface is media-blasted to an even texture. Coating will not hold on a polished face, and any patch left smoother than the rest shows up later as a difference in the white.

STAGE 03

Ceramic In Thin Coats

The white ceramic goes on in several light passes, baked between each. Laid on thick in one go it runs at the edges and pools in the corners, so the only way to get an even white is slowly.

STAGE 04

The Scale Cut In

The tachymeter is engraved into the finished bezel rather than printed on top of it. Left unfilled, the numerals read as shadow, and there is no ink on the watch that can lift.

STAGE 05

Counters Fitted And Checked

The three turquoise rings are turned, coloured and set into the lacquered dial, the hands are fitted, and the chronograph is started, stopped and reset by hand before the watch is boxed.

A Colour You Have To Earn

White shows every seam, so the case is finished to bare-metal standard before any coating touches it.

Cut, Not Printed

Why This One Reads Differently

A chronograph finished in white to this standard is a special order at the top of the market — quoted in five figures and delivered whenever the queue allows. This keeps the white ceramic, the engraved bezel and the turquoise counters, and asks $1,099.

Frequently Asked Questions

check_box

Will the white wear off or go yellow?

It is a baked ceramic coating, not a lacquer or a spray-on paint, so it does not yellow with age or sunlight and it does not lift at the edges. It is a hard surface but not an indestructible one — a sharp knock on a bezel corner can mark it, the same as any finish.

check_box

Why are the bezel numbers so hard to read?

Because they are cut into the white and left unfilled. There is no black paint in the engraving, so the scale is read by the shadow in each numeral. It looks faint in flat overhead light and comes back the moment you tilt your wrist. That is how it was designed.

check_box

Does it need a battery?

No. It is automatic, wound by the movement of your wrist. Leave it off for a couple of days and it stops; a minute of wear sets it going again. Nothing to charge and nothing to have replaced.

check_box

Do the three counters actually work?

Yes. The pushers start, stop and reset them — twelve hours at nine, thirty minutes at three, and the small seconds at six ticking away to show the watch is running. They are working counters, not printed circles.

check_box

Can the white strap be changed, and does it stay white?

The strap is a tight woven fabric with a dark lining, which holds its colour far better than white leather and wipes clean with a damp cloth. If you would rather have something else, the lugs take a standard strap change at any jeweller.

check_box

Can I swim with it?

No. It is rated to 30m, which covers rain, hand-washing and a spilled drink. Pools, the sea and hot showers will get past it.

check_box

How long does delivery take?

Ten to eighteen days to most countries, fifteen to twenty-five inside Iraq. Shipping is free, tracked and insured, and you get the tracking number as soon as it leaves us.

check_box

Can I ask questions before I order?

Yes, and we would rather you did. Message the page on Facebook or Instagram — a real person answers, usually within the hour.
