BLACK RUBBER STRAP · RED STONE BEZEL · BLACK DIAL · QUARTZ CHRONOGRAPH
Black Rubber, Red Stones
A matte black rubber strap and a gold-tone case under a bezel of thirty-six deep red baguette-cut stones.
Start with the strap: smooth matte black rubber, with two shallow grooves running down its length either side of a raised central band. It meets the case at a polished gold-tone end piece and fastens with a gold-tone folding clasp.
The case is 316L stainless steel in a gold tone, 43 mm across, with polished lugs and guards that rise round the crown. Its bezel is set all the way round with thirty-six deep red baguette-cut stones, edge to edge between two thin gold-tone rims, nine to every quarter.
With the strap and the dial both black, the red of the stones and the gold of the case carry the whole watch.

THE DIAL
A Black Dial With Orange Stones
Orange baguette stones at the hours, three black counters printed in white and gold-tone hands.
The dial is glossy black with a fine white minute track round its edge, framed by a gold-tone inner ring engraved all the way round.
The hour markers are stones: long orange baguettes at one, two, four, five, seven, eight, ten and eleven, and small square orange stones at three, six and nine, each in a thin bright setting. Their orange is lighter than the red of the bezel, so the two never blur together.
The three counters are the dial's own black, printed in white. The hour and minute hands are gold-tone batons with luminous strips, the counter hands slim gold-tone pointers, and the long central chronograph hand is gold-tone with an arrow tip.

Onto Black Rubber

Why The Black Rubber Works
Most stone-set chronographs come on a bracelet or a bright strap. This one keeps everything round the stones black, the dial, the counters and the rubber strap, and lets a gold-tone case and thirty-six red baguette-cut stones carry it. It asks $499.
