FORGED CARBON · BLACK GRID DIAL · GREY NUMERALS · AUTOMATIC
Carbon With No Colour Added
A black forged-carbon case swirled in grey, a black grid dial and gunmetal numerals: the material is the whole show.
Take the colour off a watch and the eye goes to what it is made of. Here that is forged carbon: CNC-cut from one piece, black all the way through, and marked across the bezel with whitish-grey swirls and small concentric rings, like the contour lines round a hilltop.
Down the flanks and lugs the carbon goes matte black, with fine horizontal lines where its layers show. The swirls form as the carbon is pressed, so the pattern on this bezel exists once.
The case is 40.8 mm across and 8.1 mm thick, and much lighter than steel, so the weight that usually presses on the wrist simply is not there.

THE DIAL
A Grid Dial In Black And Grey
A raised grid on black, applied gunmetal-grey numerals, white luminous markers and the date at three.
The dial is black, embossed with a raised grid: straight lines across, and lines down that curve outward toward the edge like the lines on a globe. It catches the light in fine ridges rather than shine.
The hours are applied numerals in brushed gunmetal grey, dark straight on and pale silver-grey at an angle. There are eleven of them: at three, the date window takes the place of the 3. A white luminous marker stands outside every hour, and the gunmetal hands carry white luminous fills.
The crown is glossy black and fluted, and the strap is black fluororubber with the same raised grid, closing on a black folding clasp.

Why The Black Works
Most watches use colour to get noticed. This one takes it all away and lets the carbon do the work: grey swirls across a black bezel, a black grid dial, numerals in gunmetal grey and a black rubber strap. It asks $999.
THE BLACK GRID-DIAL SPEC
40.8 mm forged-carbon case, 8.1 mm thick, black grid dial with gunmetal-grey numerals, date at three, black rubber strap with a folding clasp. Inspected by hand, boxed for presentation, and covered for two years.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the case made of?
Forged carbon, CNC-cut from one piece. The bezel shows whitish-grey swirls and small contour rings, and the flanks are matte black with fine layer lines. The pattern forms as the carbon is pressed, so no two are the same.
