40MM FORGED CARBON · AUTOMATIC CHRONOGRAPH · BLACK AND WHITE
One Band Of White Is The Only Colour On It
A black dial ringed in white, in a case of grey-marbled forged carbon.
Most watches try to hold your attention with colour. This one takes all of it away and keeps a single white ring, and that ring is the reason the watch reads at arm's length in a way busier dials never manage.
The case is forged carbon — short fibre pressed with resin under heat until the block cures, then machined out. The grey swirl across the flanks and the bezel is the fibre itself, so it runs through the material rather than sitting on it.
Nothing here is coated, and nothing here is bright. It is the watch you wear when you do not want to be asked about your watch — and it gets asked about anyway.

THE DIAL
Black On Black, Made Legible By A White Circle
Three black counters on a grained black ground, held inside a broad white chapter ring.
The dial is grained black and the three counters are black as well, which on most watches would be unreadable. What saves it is the ring: a wide white band around the outside carrying the minute track, bright enough that the black inside reads as a shape rather than a hole.
The counters are outlined so they separate from the ground, and the hands and applied markers are polished steel filled with white lume. In the dark the markers and hands come up and the rest of the watch disappears entirely.
On the bezel the numerals are white against carbon — the same two tones, nothing else introduced.
Why A Black Dial Is The Hard One
Every flaw that a coloured dial hides, a black one shows.
The Ground Is Grained
The dial is textured before anything is printed on it. The grain is what stops black from going dead flat under a light.
The Ring Is Laid
The white chapter ring is applied as a clean band. Any wobble in its inner edge is visible from across a room, so the edge decides whether the dial passes.
Counters Cut In
Three counters are set into the black and outlined. They are turned with fine circular grooves so they catch light differently from the ground around them.
Markers Applied
Polished steel markers are fitted one at a time and filled with lume. On a black dial a marker that sits a fraction proud throws a shadow and is rejected.
Cased And Run
The automatic chronograph movement goes in, the pushers and crown are fitted, and the watch is run and regulated before it is boxed.

Why It Works At Arm's Length
Carbon has to be pressed, cured and then machined from solid, and it blunts tooling the whole way. That is why most watches at this price are steel. This one arrives finished and boxed, and asks $949.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is a black dial hard to read?
Is a black dial hard to read?
Not this one. The white ring around the outside gives the black something to read against, and the hands are polished steel filled with white lume, so they separate from the ground in any light.
Is the case really carbon, not black steel?
Is the case really carbon, not black steel?
Carbon. In daylight you will see a grey marbled swirl moving through the flank — coated steel is flat and even — and it is noticeably lighter on the wrist than steel of the same size.
Will the white ring discolour?
Will the white ring discolour?
No. It is under the crystal, sealed inside the case, and nothing touches it.
Does it need a battery?
Does it need a battery?
No. It is a high-precision automatic — it winds from the motion of your wrist. Leave it off for a couple of days and it stops; a minute back on restarts it.
Does the chronograph work?
Does the chronograph work?
Yes. The two pushers start, stop and reset it, and the counters on the dial are the ones that move.
Does it glow?
Does it glow?
Yes. The markers and hands come up white in the dark and the black dial disappears around them.
