The Carbon Does Not Stop At The Bezel
Look through the crystal and you are looking at more of the case material, grooved straight across.
On most carbon watches the material ends at the edge of the dial opening. Inside it sits a painted or printed face, because a dial is a small, thin part and carbon is awkward to work that thin.
Here it carries on. The dial is forged carbon — charcoal and black, with irregular patches of bright silver-white — so the front of the watch is one material from the bezel to the centre. Nothing is painted to imitate it.
This collection has carbon dials on straps, and a carbon bracelet around a painted dial. This is the only one where the dial and the bracelet are both carbon, and the whole watch reads as a single piece.

THE DIAL
Marbling, Cut Into Stripes
Straight horizontal grooves break the swirl of the carbon into steps, and the markers stay calm on top.
On the case, the silver-white veins run in loose loops. On the dial they are interrupted: straight horizontal grooves cross the carbon, and each patch of silver-white breaks into a stack of short stripes. Same material, a different texture, and it shifts as light moves over the grooves.
A patterned dial needs markers that do not add to the noise. These are batons framed in black around white luminous filling, and the hour and minute hands match them. Black frame and white fill together stay legible over dark patches and bright ones alike.
All of the print is white, and there are only four places with any. The rest of the face is left to the carbon.
How A Dial Is Made From Carbon
Forged carbon is easy to press into a thick block and hard to turn into something as thin as a dial.
Pressed Thin
Forged carbon is pressed into a thin plate. The silver-white patches form as the material settles under pressure, and no two plates come out alike.
Cut To The Opening
The dial is cut from the plate to the rounded outline of the case opening, with a window left at three for the date.
Grooved Across
Straight horizontal grooves are cut into the face. This is the step that turns loops of marbling into stepped stripes, and one uneven line would show across the whole dial.
White Print
The lettering goes on in white, in four places only. On a surface this varied, a fine line of print has to land cleanly on the dark patches and the bright ones.
Markers And Hands
The black-framed baton markers are applied, doubled at twelve and skipped at three. The hands, framed and filled the same way, are fitted last.

Why The Dial Is The Point
A carbon dial is the fussiest part of a carbon watch to get right, and plenty of carbon watches leave it out. Setting one inside a carbon case on a carbon bracelet is the whole idea here, and it asks $1,099.
THE ALL-CARBON SPEC

Frequently Asked Questions
Is the dial real carbon, or printed to look like it?
Is the dial real carbon, or printed to look like it?
It is real forged carbon. A print would be identical on every watch and would have no depth under the grooves. Here the silver-white patches are in the material, and the grooves run straight across them.
Will my dial look exactly like the photographs?
Will my dial look exactly like the photographs?
The layout will: the markers, the hands, the white print and the date. The patches in the carbon will not, because forged carbon forms differently every time it is pressed. Your dial and your case each have a pattern of their own.
Is the time easy to read on a patterned dial?
Is the time easy to read on a patterned dial?
Yes. The markers and the hour and minute hands are framed in black around white luminous filling, so they stand out over the dark patches and the bright ones.
Is there any colour on it?
Is there any colour on it?
None. It is black, charcoal and silver-white throughout, with white print and white lume. The same case and bracelet also come with a turquoise dial and with an orange one.
What holds the bracelet together?
What holds the bracelet together?
The bracelet is carbon joined with stainless steel. The small bright pin heads on the side of each link are the steel you can see.
What is the back of the case made of?
What is the back of the case made of?
Stainless steel with a black coating, so it matches the dark tone of the carbon when the watch is off the wrist.
Does it need a battery?
Does it need a battery?
No. It is automatic — it winds from the motion of your wrist. Left off for a couple of days it stops, and a minute back on the wrist restarts it.
